What We Do

We lead monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) and other applied research through:

• Qualitative, quantitative, and geospatial research on territorial, social, ecological and environmental processes and indicators; and
• Collaborative research, hand-in-hand with communities.

Research enables the development of spatial, institutional and qualitative analyses, operational maps, briefings, reports and other outputs that contribute to:

1. Baseline information;

2. Monitoring, evaluation, and action-learning;

3. Multi-level planning, community development and environmental management;

4. Advocacy;

5. Policy development; and

6. Spatial planning and analyses on land tenure, NRM and conservation planning.

We contribute to sustainable development efforts through:

1. Helping to collaboratively design projects and programs related to social development, conservation, natural resource management, and land governance;

2. Provision of technical and field support to implement sustainable development efforts;  and

3. Assessment of policies and practices impacting on community development and collective land tenure systems.

We support effective and equitable decision-making through:

 1. Facilitation of collaborative mapping, bottom-up planning, and other participatory approaches;

 2. Design and facilitation of landscape approaches;

 3. Support to multi-stakeholder platforms and decision-making processes;

 4. Translation of research and experience to inform stakeholders; and

 5. Design and facilitation of approaches for public accountability.
