Our Expertise

We do spatial analysis that investigates important marine and terrestrial processes. Spatial processes we examine include boundaries, ecosystems processes, environmental indicators, resource-based livelihoods, and built environments, from which we develop datasets that can be combined to generate different kinds of maps and to answer questions of relevance for policy, development and conservation.

We also have experience putting the power of mapping into the hands, supporting participatory mapping and participatory GIS.

Pastoralism is an often-misunderstood way of life based on creating livelihoods from mobile livestock keeping in dry, unpredictable, and otherwise inhospitable environments. National policies and international development processes have frequently sidelined and even undermined pastoralist livelihoods and traditional resource management systems. However, Ruwaza’s personnel have decades of experience supporting effective education, natural resource management, and land governance programs with pastoralist communities in Latin America and Africa.
